At Awan, we pride ourselves on a portfolio that reflects both breadth and depth — delivering training and capacity-building programs across the Middle East and North Africa in partnership with leading media development organizations.
Since 2020, we have worked closely with International Media Support (IMS) to design and deliver online training programs in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, and Palestine/Gaza. Despite operating in contexts marked by conflict and instability, our trainees have shown remarkable resilience — from covering the impact of Israeli wars on Gaza, to lifesaving humanitarian reporting in Yemen, to strengthening electoral coverage in Iraq, and supporting citizen-led initiatives in Morocco. In total, more than 160 journalists and media professionals were trained, with project durations ranging from a few weeks to two years.
Our collaboration with Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) extended this work to Lebanon, where we trained journalists in data journalism for human rights reporting, equipping them with tools to highlight accountability and transparency. In 2024, we partnered with The Munathara Initiative to train 120 journalists from Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, and Libya, strengthening civic discourse and expanding public participation in shaping the media agenda.
Through these projects, our team has delivered high-quality training that provides participants with lasting skills and networks. The impact is already visible across newsrooms, community media outlets, and digital platforms, where our trainees continue to produce journalism that informs, engages, and empowers communities.
